Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup warm whole milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 ½ tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 –3 tablespoons milk or cream

Instructions

  • 1. In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit briefly, then add melted butter and egg and mix well.
  • 2. Add flour and salt gradually, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  • 3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • 4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rest for 15–20 minutes.
  • 5. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl to prepare the filling.
  • 6. Roll the dough into a 10x14 inch rectangle.
  • 7. Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar evenly.
  • 8. Roll tightly into a log and slice into even rolls.
  • 9. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise for another 15–20 minutes.
  • 10. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 18–22 minutes until golden.
  • 11. Mix powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk to make the glaze.
  • 12. Drizzle glaze over warm rolls and serve.

Notes

Use warm milk, not hot, to properly activate the yeast without killing it.
Do not overflour the dough, as a slightly sticky texture ensures soft rolls.
Let the rolls cool slightly before glazing so it melts perfectly without becoming too runny.
