- 1 ½ cups milk chocolate chips or melting wafers
- 1 ½ cups caramel squares
- ⅓ cup sweetened condensed milk
- ¼ cup unsalted butter
- 1 ½ cups marshmallow creme
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup evaporated milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
1. In a saucepan combine sugar, evaporated milk, and butter and heat over medium until melted. Bring to a gentle boil for about 5 minutes.
2. Remove from heat and stir in marshmallow creme and vanilla until smooth. Spread into a parchment lined 8x8 pan and chill until firm.
3. In another saucepan melt caramel squares with sweetened condensed milk over low heat until smooth.
4. Pour the caramel over the chilled nougat layer and refrigerate until set.
5. Melt the milk chocolate chips in the microwave in 30 second intervals stirring each time.
6. Spread melted chocolate evenly over the caramel layer and chill again until firm.
7. Cut into bars or dip individually in chocolate for a classic candy bar coating.
Freeze the pan for about 20 minutes before slicing to get clean layers.
Dip your knife in hot water and wipe it dry between cuts for neat edges.
If dipping bars individually in chocolate freeze them briefly first so they hold their shape.
