Ingredients
  

  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 2 medium apples peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg optional
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1/4 cup shredded or cubed mild cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions
 

  • 1. Prepare the apple filling by cooking apples, butter, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt over medium heat for 5–7 minutes then stir in cornstarch and cool
  • 2. Mix cream cheese, vanilla extract, and sugar until smooth
  • 3. Roll out puff pastry and cut into equal shapes
  • 4. Shape pastry pieces on a lined baking sheet creating a border
  • 5. Fill with cream cheese mixture, apple filling, and cheese
  • 6. Brush edges with egg wash
  • 7. Bake at 375°F for 18–22 minutes until golden
  • 8. Cool slightly before serving and add optional toppings

Notes

Keep puff pastry cold for best flaky results
Do not overfill the danishes to avoid leaks
Cool apple filling completely before assembling
