  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch salt
  • Chocolate shavings
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Chocolate sprinkles
  • Chopped walnuts or pecans
  • Sea salt flakes

Instructions
 

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
  • 2. Beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • 3. Add the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  • 4. Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  • 5. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients.
  • 6. Fold in the sour cream and chocolate chips.
  • 7. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  • 8. Bake for 22–28 minutes until the edges are set and the center is slightly soft.
  • 9. Cool the bars completely before frosting.
  • 10. Prepare the frosting by beating butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  • 11. Spread frosting evenly over the cooled bars.
  • 12. Add toppings if desired, slice into bars, and serve.

Notes

Use room-temperature butter and eggs for a smoother batter and softer texture.
Do not overbake the bars; the center should remain slightly soft for a fudgy consistency.
Chill the frosted bars for 20 minutes before slicing to achieve cleaner cuts.
