Ingredients

Scale

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 1/4 cups granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1/4 cup extra granulated sugar for rolling

1/2 cup sprinkles (optional)

1 cup vanilla frosting (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cornstarch.

3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.

6. Fold in sprinkles if using.

7. Cover the dough and chill for at least 30 minutes.

8. Scoop the dough into evenly sized balls and roll them in extra granulated sugar.

9. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.

10. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes until the edges are lightly golden and the centers still look soft.

11. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

12. Frost or decorate the cookies if desired, then serve and enjoy.

Notes

Do not overbake the cookies because they continue to set while cooling.

Chilling the dough helps create thicker and chewier cookies with better flavor.

Measure the flour carefully using the spoon-and-level method to avoid dry cookies.
