  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped (about 56 cups)
  • 1 1/2 cups cooked white rice
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste (optional)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup water or broth
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add diced onion and sauté for 3–4 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Stir in chopped cabbage and cook for 5–7 minutes until it begins to soften.
  5. Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, water or broth, and seasonings. Stir to combine.
  6. Cover and simmer for 15–20 minutes until cabbage is tender.
  7. Stir in cooked rice and heat through for about 5 minutes.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning. Garnish with parsley if desired. Serve hot.
