1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup unsalted butter softened

1 3/4 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs room temperature

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 cup buttermilk room temperature

4 cups fresh strawberries sliced

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon lemon juice optional

2 cups heavy whipping cream chilled

1/3 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

1. Slice strawberries, mix with sugar and lemon juice, and let sit for 30 minutes.

2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13-inch pan.

3. Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

4. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

5. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.

6. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk, mixing gently.

7. Pour batter into pan and bake 30–35 minutes. Cool completely.

8. Whip cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.

9. Spread whipped cream over cake and top with strawberries.

10. Chill for 30 minutes before slicing and serving.


Notes
