Description
The South Carolina Bird Dog Sandwich brings the flavors of Southern comfort food in a fun and unexpected way. A crispy chicken tender, crumbled bacon, melted cheddar, and sweet honey mustard are all wrapped up in a fluffy hot dog bun. It’s indulgent, easy to make, and the perfect meal for any occasion.
Ingredients
4 chicken tenders
2 hot dog buns
2 slices cheddar cheese
4 strips crispy bacon
3 tablespoons honey mustard sauce
1 tablespoon butter (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. If using homemade chicken tenders, season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Dip the tenders in buttermilk, dredge in seasoned flour, and fry until golden and crispy (about 6–8 minutes). If using frozen tenders, cook them according to package instructions.
2. Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Set aside and crumble into small pieces.
3. Butter the inside of the hot dog buns and toast them on a griddle or skillet until golden brown.
4. Lay a slice of cheddar cheese over the hot chicken tenders to melt. You can also broil for 30 seconds to speed up the melting.
5. Assemble the sandwich by placing the cheesy chicken tenders into the toasted buns. Top with crumbled bacon and drizzle with honey mustard sauce.
6. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy!
Notes
• The sandwich is best served immediately to maintain the crispy texture of the chicken.
• To keep the chicken crispy when reheating, use the oven instead of the microwave.
• Feel free to substitute grilled chicken or try a different cheese for variety.
