Ingredients

Scale

40 saltine crackers

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup brown sugar

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

1/4 teaspoon sea salt (optional)

1/2 cup crushed peppermint or holiday sprinkles

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a rimmed baking sheet with foil or parchment paper. Spray lightly with non-stick spray.

2. Lay saltine crackers in a single layer to cover the entire sheet.

3. In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring until fully combined and bubbling. Let boil for 3 minutes without stirring.

4. Pour the toffee mixture over the crackers and spread evenly.

5. Bake for 5 minutes until the toffee is bubbling.

6. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let sit for 2 minutes, then spread the melted chocolate evenly.

7. Sprinkle crushed peppermint or sprinkles over the melted chocolate and gently press them down.

8. Let cool at room temperature or refrigerate for 1 hour until fully set.

9. Break into pieces and store in an airtight container.

Notes

Let the chocolate fully melt before spreading to avoid tearing the toffee.

Use parchment paper or foil for easy removal and cleanup.

Chill completely before breaking for clean, sharp pieces.
