- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons corn syrup (or maple syrup)
- 1 loaf brioche bread, thick-sliced
- 5 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and corn syrup. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened. Pour into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Arrange thick slices of brioche in a single layer over the caramel.
- In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, and salt. Pour custard evenly over bread. Press lightly to soak.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- The next morning, preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Let dish sit at room temp while oven preheats.
- Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes, until golden brown and bubbling at the edges.
- Cool slightly before serving. Serve with syrup, berries, or whipped cream.
