Description

Sink your teeth into the sizzling, juicy goodness of the Oklahoma Fried Onion Burger—a crispy, cheesy, beefy masterpiece perfect for a quick dinner, easy lunch, or indulgent weekend treat. Featuring paper-thin caramelized onions smashed into a juicy ground beef patty and topped with melty American cheese, this diner-style classic is pure comfort food. Ideal for anyone searching for easy dinner recipes, retro food ideas, or just the ultimate burger experience.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)

2 medium yellow onions, very thinly sliced

4 slices American cheese

4 burger buns

1 tbsp unsalted butter

Kosher salt, to taste

Black pepper, to taste

Cooking oil or spray

Dill pickle chips

Mustard or mayo

Lettuce or tomato

Instructions

1. Slice onions very thin using a mandoline or sharp knife. Salt lightly and let sit 10 minutes.

2. Divide beef into four 4-oz balls, season with salt and pepper.

3. Preheat cast iron skillet over high heat with a touch of oil.

4. Add a small pile of onions to skillet, place beef ball on top, smash flat.

5. Let cook 2-3 minutes until edges are crisp. Flip with spatula, keeping onions attached.

6. Add cheese to each patty and cook 1-2 minutes more.

7. Toast buns in butter until golden.

8. Assemble burger with patty on bun and any desired toppings.

Notes

Always use very thin onions for proper caramelization.

Use a cast iron skillet for best searing and flavor.

Don’t skip toasting the buns—it adds texture and warmth.
