  • 1 loaf brioche, challah, or French bread (slightly stale)
  • ¾ cup Nutella (or more, as needed)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for garnish)
  • ¼ cup melted chocolate (for drizzle, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread: Cut the bread into thick slices or cubes. If fresh, let it sit out for a few hours or toast it lightly.
  2. Spread Nutella: Spread Nutella on half of the bread slices and sandwich them together. If using cubed bread, drizzle Nutella in layers while assembling.
  3. Make the Custard: In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Assemble the Casserole: Grease a baking dish and arrange the Nutella-filled bread inside. Pour the custard mixture over the bread, ensuring it’s evenly soaked.
  5. Soak: Let the casserole sit for at least 30 minutes, or refrigerate overnight for deeper flavor.
  6. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes, until golden brown and set.
