Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf brioche, challah, or French bread (slightly stale)
- ¾ cup Nutella (or more, as needed)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 ½ cups milk
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for garnish)
- ¼ cup melted chocolate (for drizzle, optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread: Cut the bread into thick slices or cubes. If fresh, let it sit out for a few hours or toast it lightly.
- Spread Nutella: Spread Nutella on half of the bread slices and sandwich them together. If using cubed bread, drizzle Nutella in layers while assembling.
- Make the Custard: In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Assemble the Casserole: Grease a baking dish and arrange the Nutella-filled bread inside. Pour the custard mixture over the bread, ensuring it’s evenly soaked.
- Soak: Let the casserole sit for at least 30 minutes, or refrigerate overnight for deeper flavor.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes, until golden brown and set.
- Garnish and Serve: Let it cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with melted chocolate. Serve warm and enjoy!
