Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound ground beef
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 can (14.5 ounces) crushed tomatoes
2 cups beef broth
1 cup dry orzo pasta
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese (optional)
1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional)
Instructions
1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3–4 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant.
2. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it up with a spoon and cook until browned, about 6–8 minutes. Drain excess grease if needed.
3. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1–2 minutes. Season with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and beef broth. Stir well and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
5. Add the dry orzo pasta and stir to combine. Cover partially and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the orzo is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed.
6. Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream. Simmer for 2–3 minutes to thicken.
7. Remove from heat and top with parmesan and parsley if using. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
Stir orzo occasionally while cooking to prevent sticking or clumping.
Add a splash of broth or cream when reheating to loosen the sauce.
Always add the cream at the end on low heat to prevent curdling.
