Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
2 tbsp unsalted butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 small onion finely chopped
1 clove garlic minced
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
Fresh parsley chopped (optional garnish)
2 lbs russet or Yukon gold potatoes peeled and cubed
4 tbsp unsalted butter
1/2 cup milk warm
Salt to taste
Instructions
1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the cubed potatoes and cook until fork-tender (15–20 minutes). Drain, return to the pot, and mash with butter and warm milk. Season to taste and keep warm.
2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat, leaving about 1 tablespoon in the pan. Add onion and garlic, and sauté 2–3 minutes.
3. Sprinkle flour over the beef and stir to coat. Cook for 1–2 minutes, then slowly whisk in beef broth. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer 5–7 minutes until thickened.
4. Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates and ladle the beef and gravy over the top. Garnish with parsley if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
Use warm milk and room-temperature butter for fluffier mashed potatoes.
Let the flour cook fully before adding broth to avoid a raw taste in the gravy.
For deeper flavor, add a splash of heavy cream or soy sauce to the gravy.
