Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz (170g) semi-sweet chocolate bar, chopped
  • ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (50g) brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup (95g) all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup (25g) cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup (85g) chocolate chips or chunks

Instructions

  1. In a heatproof bowl, melt the chocolate and butter together until smooth.
  2. In a large bowl, vigorously whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and eggs until thick and pale.
  3. Add the melted chocolate mixture and vanilla extract to the egg mixture, stirring to combine.
  4. Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gently fold until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips or chunks.
  6. Cover and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  8. Scoop the dough into 2-tablespoon-sized balls and place them on the baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are set and the centers look slightly soft.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired.
