Ingredients

Scale

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet active dry yeast

1 cup warm milk

1/4 cup warm water

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 large egg

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Cooking spray or oil for greasing

Instructions

1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, a pinch of sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2. In a stand mixer bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, butter, salt, and egg. Add yeast mixture.

3. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing with dough hook until dough forms.

4. Knead dough for 6–8 minutes using mixer, or 10 minutes by hand, until smooth and elastic.

5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours.

6. Punch down dough, divide into 15 pieces, and shape into balls.

7. Place dough balls in a greased 9x13 pan and let rise again for 30–45 minutes.

8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 18–22 minutes until golden brown.

9. Brush hot rolls with melted butter and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use a kitchen scale for consistent dough portions and evenly baked rolls.

For extra flavor, mix in dried herbs or shredded cheese before shaping the dough.

Brushing the rolls with melted butter immediately after baking keeps them soft and enhances their golden shine.
