Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1 and 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley or chives (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease or line a loaf pan with parchment paper.
2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
3. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
4. Stir in shredded cheese until evenly distributed.
5. Pour in buttermilk and mix until just combined; do not overmix.
6. Transfer the dough into the prepared loaf pan and gently press it into an even layer.
7. Bake for 40–45 minutes or until the top is golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
8. Let the loaf cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Garnish with fresh herbs, slice, and serve warm.
Notes
Use cold butter and avoid overmixing for the flakiest texture. Freshly shredded cheese melts best. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze slices for up to 2 months.
