Ingredients

Scale

1 loaf Cuban bread

4 tablespoons yellow mustard

1/2 pound sliced roasted pork

1/2 pound sliced deli ham

1/2 pound sliced Swiss cheese

1/3 cup sliced dill pickles

2 tablespoons softened butter

Optional pinch of black pepper

Instructions

1. Cut the loaf of Cuban bread into sandwich-sized sections and slice each in half horizontally.

2. Spread butter on the outside of each slice, then mustard on the inside of each half.

3. Layer ingredients in this order: Swiss cheese, ham, roasted pork, pickles, more Swiss cheese.

4. Preheat a panini press or skillet. Place the sandwich in the press or skillet.

5. If using a skillet, press down with a heavy object like a second skillet or foil-wrapped brick.

6. Grill for 3–5 minutes per side until golden and crisp, and the cheese has melted.

7. Let the sandwich rest for 1 minute, then slice diagonally and serve hot.

8. Optionally, sprinkle with black pepper and serve with plantain chips or a mojito.

Notes

For authentic flavor, use mojo-marinated pork if available.

Always press the sandwich for that signature crunch.

Preheat the pan or press to achieve an evenly crisp crust.
