Ingredients
1 lb cube steak
2 medium yellow onions, sliced
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
1. Pat the cube steaks dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Dredge in flour and shake off excess.
2. Heat oil and 1 tablespoon butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the steaks for 2–3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
3. Reduce heat to medium. Add remaining butter to the pan and toss in sliced onions. Cook for 10–12 minutes until caramelized and soft.
4. Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir to coat. Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce.
5. Bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
6. Return the cube steaks to the skillet, nestling them into the onion gravy. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20–25 minutes until steaks are tender.
7. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot over your favorite base.
