Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 mozzarella cheese sticks (low-moisture string cheese)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs or panko
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 cup marinara sauce (for dipping)
  • 1/2 cup creamy dip (ranch or garlic aioli)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Unwrap mozzarella sticks or slice block cheese into ½-inch thick sticks. Pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. Set up three bowls: flour in one, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs mixed with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in the third.
  3. Coat each cheese stick in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs. For a thicker crust, dip again in egg and breadcrumbs.
  4. Place breaded sticks on a tray and freeze for 30 minutes or until firm.
  5. Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown, turning as needed.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. Warm marinara sauce and creamy dip. Serve mozzarella sticks hot, garnished with parsley if desired.
