- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 medium head green cabbage, chopped (about 6–8 cups)
- 2 medium carrots, sliced
- 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning (optional)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese (optional)
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare and chop all vegetables.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat and set aside.
- In the same skillet, heat oil or butter. Sauté the onions and carrots for 5–6 minutes until softened.
- Add garlic and chopped cabbage. Cook for 7–10 minutes until cabbage is wilted.
- Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir. Gradually add beef broth and cream, stirring constantly. Simmer 3–5 minutes until thickened.
- Season with salt, pepper, and optional herbs. Return the beef to the skillet and stir to combine.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch casserole dish. Top with cheese if using.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10–15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
