Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium head green cabbage, chopped (about 68 cups)
  • 2 medium carrots, sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare and chop all vegetables.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, heat oil or butter. Sauté the onions and carrots for 5–6 minutes until softened.
  4. Add garlic and chopped cabbage. Cook for 7–10 minutes until cabbage is wilted.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir. Gradually add beef broth and cream, stirring constantly. Simmer 3–5 minutes until thickened.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, and optional herbs. Return the beef to the skillet and stir to combine.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch casserole dish. Top with cheese if using.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10–15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  9. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
