Ingredients
2 burger patties (80/20 ground beef)
3 sesame seed burger buns
2 slices American cheese
1/2 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
4–6 dill pickle slices
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
3 tablespoons special sauce (see note)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Butter, for toasting buns
Instructions
1. Mix the special sauce ingredients and chill for at least 30 minutes.
2. Divide ground beef into two thin patties, about 4 inches wide. Season with salt and pepper.
3. Cook patties in a skillet over medium-high heat for 2 minutes per side until browned.
4. Butter and toast the buns until golden. Trim one bun to make the middle piece.
5. Spread sauce on the bottom bun, top with lettuce, onion, pickles, cheese, and one patty.
6. Add the middle bun and repeat layering: sauce, lettuce, onion, patty (cheese optional).
7. Top with the final bun, press gently, and serve immediately with fries or onion rings.
Notes
For authentic flavor, chill the special sauce before assembling the burger.
Use a burger press or parchment paper to flatten patties thin and even.
Assemble quickly so the cheese melts slightly over the hot patties.
