Perfect for parties, holidays, or as an easy dinner dessert idea, it offers the perfect blend of textures and flavors in every bite. Whether you’re looking for a quick breakfast treat, healthy snack alternative (with lightened ingredients), or party-ready dessert, this is one of those crowd-pleasing, easy recipes you’ll keep on repeat.

Ingredients

Scale

1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients to bake)

2 packages (3.9 oz each) instant chocolate pudding mix

4 cups cold milk

16 oz whipped topping, thawed

6 full-sized toffee candy bars, chopped

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

1 cup mini chocolate chips or chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare chocolate cake as per package instructions. Cool completely, then crumble into coarse pieces.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together pudding mix and milk for 2 minutes until thickened. Chill for 5–10 minutes.

3. Chop toffee bars into small chunks; reserve some for topping.

4. In a trifle bowl, layer cake crumbs, chocolate pudding, whipped topping, and toffee chunks.

5. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.

6. Finish with a layer of whipped topping and sprinkle remaining toffee and optional chocolate chips or shavings.

7. Chill for at least 2 hours before serving to set the layers and enhance flavor.

Notes

You can use store-bought chocolate cake or brownies for convenience.

Homemade whipped cream can be substituted for the whipped topping for a richer flavor.

Let the cake cool fully before layering to avoid melting the whipped topping or pudding.
