- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup heavy cream (for ganache)
- 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- Whole strawberries for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare three 8-inch round cake pans.
- Make the cake batter by combining dry and wet ingredients separately, then mixing together. Add hot water last.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool completely.
- Prepare the frosting by beating butter, sugar, cocoa, cream, and vanilla until fluffy.
- Assemble layers with frosting and sliced strawberries.
- Make ganache by heating cream and pouring over chocolate. Stir until smooth.
- Pour ganache over cake and garnish with whole strawberries.
