Ingredients
1 cup whole milk
2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons chai spice blend
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon chai spice blend (for frosting)
2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk (for frosting)
Instructions
1. Warm the milk to about 110°F and combine with yeast and 1 teaspoon of sugar in a large mixing bowl. Let it sit until foamy, about 5–10 minutes.
2. Add eggs, melted butter, remaining sugar, and salt. Gradually add flour, mixing until a sticky dough forms. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth.
3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled.
4. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, chai spice, cinnamon, and softened butter into a paste for the filling.
5. Roll the risen dough into a 16x12 inch rectangle. Spread filling evenly across the surface.
6. Roll the dough tightly from the long side and cut into 12 even pieces using floss or a sharp knife.
7. Place rolls in a greased 9x13 pan, cover, and let rise for 30–45 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
8. Bake rolls for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
9. While baking, make the frosting: beat together cream cheese, butter, vanilla, powdered sugar, chai spice, and milk until smooth.
10. Spread frosting on warm rolls and serve immediately.
Notes
Use fresh spices for maximum chai flavor.
Don’t skip the second rise—it makes the rolls extra fluffy.
For clean slices, use dental floss instead of a knife.
