Description

These Banana Bread Brownies with Brown Butter Frosting are the ultimate dessert mash-up — the moist texture of banana bread meets the chewy bite of a blondie, all topped with rich, nutty brown butter frosting. Perfect for a quick breakfast, a crowd-pleasing treat, or an easy dessert for your next gathering. This easy recipe brings together ripe bananas, pantry staples, and bakery-style flavor that will make it one of your favorite go-to food ideas.

Ingredients

Scale

3 large overripe bananas

1 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup chopped walnuts

1/2 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)

2 cups powdered sugar

23 tablespoons milk or heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Optional: extra walnuts and powdered sugar for topping

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, mash the bananas until mostly smooth.

3. Add melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract to the bananas. Whisk until fully combined.

4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.

5. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Mix just until combined.

6. Fold in the chopped walnuts.

7. Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

8. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.

9. In a small saucepan, brown 1/2 cup butter over medium heat until golden and fragrant. Remove from heat and cool slightly.

10. In a bowl, combine the browned butter, powdered sugar, milk or cream, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth and spreadable.

11. Frost the cooled brownies, then top with chopped walnuts and a light dusting of powdered sugar.

12. Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

Always let the brownies cool fully before frosting to prevent melting.

Use very ripe bananas for the richest flavor.

If you want cleaner cuts, chill the frosted brownies for 30 minutes before slicing.
