3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)

2 large eggs

1/2 cup whole milk

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 tablespoon ground cardamom

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)


Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.

4. Stir in vanilla extract and ground cardamom.

5. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

6. Add the dry mixture to the wet in three parts, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with flour.

7. Mix until just combined—do not overbeat.

8. Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

9. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

10. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then remove and let cool completely on a wire rack.

11. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.


Notes

For the boldest flavor, grind whole green cardamom pods just before use.
