Ingredients

Scale

1 pound lean ground beef

2 teaspoons sesame oil

3 garlic cloves minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated

1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (optional)

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon honey

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

1 teaspoon cornstarch

2 green onions chopped

1/2 red bell pepper finely diced

1/2 cup shredded carrots

1 head butter lettuce leaves separated and washed

1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

Extra chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), rice vinegar, honey, sesame oil, red pepper flakes, and cornstarch. Set aside.

2. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Drain excess fat if needed.

3. Add garlic and ginger to the skillet and stir for 1 minute until fragrant.

4. Pour in the sauce and stir well to coat the beef evenly. Let simmer for 2–3 minutes until thickened.

5. Stir in chopped bell pepper, shredded carrots, and green onions. Cook for 1–2 minutes to keep veggies crisp.

6. Lay out butter lettuce leaves and spoon the beef mixture into the center of each.

7. Garnish with sesame seeds and extra green onions.

8. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

Use gluten-free soy sauce and hoisin to make it 100% gluten-free.

Store beef and lettuce separately to prevent sogginess.

Adjust spice level easily by tweaking the red pepper flakes or adding sriracha.
